door switch does not create entries in device log

Post by manjh » Sunday 05 August 2018 11:32

Info:
Version: 4.9700
Build Hash: a3a45906
Compile Date: 2018-06-23 16:24:51
dzVents Version: 2.4.6
Python Version: 3.4.2 (default, Oct 19 2014, 14:03:53) [GCC 4.9.1]

I have defined a new door contact (Reed relais type) and I can see the events in the Domoticz log. Also see the "last seen" timestamp changing.

But when I look in the device log, there are no entries! Is this a setting somewhere? Something I did wrong?

Nothing wrong on V4.9796, Device log reflects contact status.

So why is my device log still empty? The sensor is attached to the front door, and I can see in the "last seen" timestamp that there has been activity. But still no entries in the device log.... what can be wrong?

Just to make sure I tried everything, I just now rebooted the R-Pi. After that I opened and closed the front door.
I can see the sensor is triggered in the Domoticz log, and also that the "last seen" timestamp is updated.
But still: device log is empty.

It doesn't make sense, but is this a setting somewhere?

Did you upgrade recently? If so did you follow the RED forum rules (cache thingy)? Tried incognito mode on chrome? How is your log history setup (Setup->settings->log history)?

No, I did not upgrade recently.
After installing the device I wanted to clear everything and start logging "real" events, and wipe out the test events. At that time I did see a couple of entries, and I cleared them using the button.
After that nothing new came in.

log history settings is standard: 15 days for light/switches, and 1 day for short log sensors.
I cleared the cache. Incognito mode does not show anything different.

Not sure if this si still the case, but can you see in domoticz/www/js :

1) if there is a file domoticz.js, keep it
2) if there is a file called domoticz.js.gz, delete it
3) restart domoticz, clear browser caches and try again

File gz does not exist.

I guess we'll never know the cause of this. After looking for the gz file, I decided to take the easy way out: I deleted the device, and re-learned the signal. The device now generates log entries OK, it seems. I will keep an eye on it...

like to keep temperature data as long as possible but other devices like motion sensors in every room are more sensible.
It just feels wrong if you try to avoid services that track you in the internet and then implementing your own tracking system at home.
