Is it safe to update?..

Post by DutchHans » Friday 08 June 2018 14:20

Hello all...

I am running Domoticz for a few years now.. and I love it.. always thinking about new things to automate..
My version is very very stable v.3.8791Beta. Because its so stable I haven't updated for many months... I read the forum daily and found out that several things were not very stable eg. Python issues..Harmony issues etc

I thought.. Mine is working fine and I dont miss things.. but there have been sooo many updates now that I am thinking to update.. but am a little scared...

Is it safe to update?

Regards, Hans

Hi Hans,

Just my personal feedback. In general I find Domoticz beta pretty stable. The things that usually could trip compatibility updates in your scripts when updating.
But if this is nothing cannot be fixed after.

The alternative, I use a second Pi for testing new things before updating my main system. My home runs on 2 Pis, it gives me a bit more room for potential pitfalls (mine)

Hope it helps!

You should always have a versioned backup, then it's no problem at all to update because you can go back to any date in the past that you want.

I also think it is safe to update. Domoticz is stable, either with the update
If you can believe it, the mind can achieve it, Peter

It's my opinion, but when you do not have anything really important to gain from an update and the system does well, it leaves everything as it is.

@ jake
To make SD image you can use dd command on Linux or Win32diskimager on Windows, but recently I discovered a script with which make a SD image on a USB pendrive inserted into RPI, via command shell and also with incremental backup.

This is the link. https://pimylifeup.com/backup-raspberry-pi/ Move to the end at "Backing up your Raspberry Pi to a USB Drive"
