Domoticz webserver goes offline and events stop working

Post by Tweek » Friday 12 January 2018 23:07

Version: 3.8153
Platform: Raspberry Pi
Plugin/Hardware:
- OpenZWave USB 1.4-2501-g5af6780-dirty
- Phillips Hue Bridge
- Nest Thermostat
- Milight Controller
Description:
At seemingly random times my Domoticz installation will stop responding to both lua events and HTTP calls. After a restart Domoticz works fine again. The Domoticz service itself still reports being enabled during this state:
Image

Netstat also reports the webport still being open, the port responds but the webserver doesn't return a result:
Image

I tried creating a log but that does not return any useful info. This is the log which just stops having any events somewhere during the night, the next entries are from after I manually restarted the service:

I have created a debug level log instead of the default log posted here, it created 282k lines between 3pm and 10pm when Domoticz crashed. Near the end it shows no sign of any error what so ever:

I am really considering reinstalling Domoticz completely, perhaps even changing the Pi and SD card to be sure. This situation just doesn't work. Though I am not sure if I should backup the database to save a lot of work or if that could bring back the bug into a new installation as well.

Please check

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/domoticz.sh
. Looks like domoticz isn't listening properly.

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/domoticz.sh
Should be something like this:

Code: Select all

DAEMON=/home/pi/domoticz/$NAME
DAEMON_ARGS="-daemon"
#DAEMON_ARGS="$DAEMON_ARGS -daemonname $NAME -pidfile $PIDFILE"
DAEMON_ARGS="$DAEMON_ARGS -www 80"
DAEMON_ARGS="$DAEMON_ARGS -sslwww 443"
#DAEMON_ARGS="$DAEMON_ARGS -syslog"
Change it, restart the service and post

Code: Select all

netstat -tulpn
or

Code: Select all

ss -tulpn4
again

I am having the same issue with 3.8153 on Synology. All of a sudden domoticz service stops and in the log files there are no clues at all. I am suspicious of the event scripts, now i am disabling them one by one to track which one have a problem. I suspect the error handling in the scripts is not mature enough to spit out an error. Maybe you can also try by disabling your 'script_time_update_hue_power.lua' script for a while...

This is in my init script:

DAEMON_ARGS="$DAEMON_ARGS -www 8080"

#DAEMON_ARGS="$DAEMON_ARGS -log /var/log/domoticz.log"
#DAEMON_ARGS="$DAEMON_ARGS -loglevel 3 -debug -verbose"
After a restart of the Domoticz service/whole Pi the web interface is reachable fine. It is only after a few days/hours that the web interface goes unresponsive.

I updated the init script and after restarting the service the ports change along with it (to 8081 and 8443):

Code: Select all

I have had this issue for a long time, although at first it happened once every few weeks. Since adding more devices, and scripts along with them, the crashes started happening more often to even daily right now. I think you may be on to something that the script error handling could use some work. Maybe I will create a second pi that will clone this install except for the scripts to see if that matters.

Especially for those scripts which have outer ip connection, like google traffic or weather information connection scripts.

I have none of those, everything that runs so far is in-house.

Now i am beginning to suspect the same thing might be valid for Python plugins also, not only the scripts. so i am testing it that way. The funny thing is when the server goes off, i start domoticz again; it goes on for 1 minute and the service stops. I have to try 2-3 times, then it goes on for another day! So far, my domoticz never worked more than 5 days. The last time it run for 5 days (last week), then i installed a new zwave device. After 3 days it starts this funny nonsense, altough I highly doubt that it is because of the zwave device. Really started pissing me off. I didn't changed anything on my Synology during that time, so that's why i am suspicious that it might be an outer influence.

Also, apart from the condition on Pi, in Synology the service also stops. I didn't checked it actually from the command line yet; but in Package Center i see that Domoticz is Stopped.

I disabled IPv6 on my Pi and after that did not have problems anymore.

Code: Select all

nano /etc/sysctl.conf
and add these lines to the end:

Code: Select all

net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.eth0.disable_ipv6 = 1
reboot the system to disable ipv6.

So far, so good! Been running stable for a day and a half again.

Sorry for being the necromancer, but I've got the same issue.
Domoticz being unresponsive out without a probable cause as far as I can tell from the logs.
I've just tried the IPv6 thing, but did you guys have a good stable experience since you changed it?
And if so, is it a hardware related issue with a certain Pi version?

It's just that I've just ordered a new Pi (3B) and I want to be sure I can restore a backup on there without having the same issues all over again in case it is something in the config or a script which causes some internal stress.

Cheers,
void

So far I have been running on a Pi 2B and the IPv6 fix has made it completely stable for me. Not a single crash any more after the change. Not sure what the cause of the issue is (hardware or software) but if it is the same issue it should run stable for you whether or not you change to Pi 3.

Hi,

I had the same yesterday. Domoticz service was still running, but HTTP did not respond including events. Lucky i was at home and realized it one hour after.
Domoticz takes care of the temperature in my terrarium. So this bug can actually kill all my plants and animals inisde.

Code: Select all

ed@nanopineo:~$ sudo service domoticz status
[sudo] password for ed:
? domoticz.service - LSB: Home Automation System
   Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/domoticz.sh; bad; vendor preset: enabled)
   Active: active (running) since Wed 2018-05-09 19:17:16 CEST; 4 days ago
     Docs: man:systemd-sysv-generator(8)
  Process: 559 ExecStart=/etc/init.d/domoticz.sh start (code=exited, status=0/SU
   CGroup: /system.slice/domoticz.service
           +-576 /home/ed/domoticz/domoticz -daemon -www 8080 -sslwww 8090

Warning: Journal has been rotated since unit was started. Log output is incomple

Code: Select all

ed@nanopineo:~$ sudo service httpd status
? httpd.service
   Loaded: not-found (Reason: No such file or directory)
   Active: inactive (dead)
Reason: No such file or directory?? HMM

Is there a script we can use? Like:

IF HTTP = dead
restart Domoticz
else
be happy

For debugging: In which log files should i dig, to find more info about it?

You can use monit for that. Please search the forum
Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS, Intel NUC, MySensors 2.3.0-alpha, Pro Mini 3.3/8M RFM69(HW), ESP8266 (SDK2.2.0), Sonoff, RFLink, RFXcom, MQTT, NodeRed, Domoticz Beta (from source)
