Post by Derik » Monday 23 October 2017 7:25

Dear all....

I can see the log in Domoticz when i click on the log button.

Only is there a logfile, where i can see what happend, when my pc is off?
There is something wrong, so i hope i can see on this file,
And then i do not have to watch @ night to my pc :-)

The log file is under domoticz/var directory; called as domoticz.log. It is a text file, you can open it with a text editor.

That depends on the start settings of Domoticz

Sorry i thought every installation would be more or less the same with synology. And now i realized you are using raspberry. If it is not under /var/log you might need to add keeping log file in a separate file in the domoticz startup script.

Check the domoticz startfile for the location of the logfile. Without any changes, on a pi the logfile is in de /home/pi/domoticz directory

That really depends on your system. On a raspberry it is in /etc/init.d

There is no log in my domoticz directory on my Pi... any ideas where it is? I've got a non-booting DOmoticz now!

on my system it is in /var/log/domoticz.log
but the default setting is no logging to file

Look for a line with
DAEMON_ARGS="$DAEMON_ARGS -log
in /etc/init.d/domoticz.sh what the setting on your Pi is

Yup I see that, it's commentedd out but its stating a directory of /tmp/domoticz.txt

Should this be left as is, or should this logfile location be changed?

If you have an issue now that you want to investigate, my advice is to remove the # at the beginning of the line and let it write the loglines to a file of your choice. Problem with the standard setup on a Pi is that it writes to an SD card. For a short while there is no problem but SD cards are not the best choice for extensive writing so when you solved your problem you might want to disable it again.
