Domoticz Stops Responding to Everspring SP103 Motion Sensor

Postby gcoupe » Sunday 01 February 2015 22:48

I'm running Domoticz V2.2240 on Windows, and I have an Everspring SP103 Motion Sensor in the network. The Z-Wave controller is an AeonLabs Z-Stick S2 USB stick.

After initial setup, the sensor works fine, and I see motion being reported in Domoticz correctly. At some time later, though (overnight?), motion is no longer being reported, and it appears as though the SP103 has stopped working. Somewhere along the line, i.e. between the SP103 and the Z-stick, or between the Z-Stick and Domoticz, the communications is breaking down.

When this happens, restarting Domoticz has no effect. However, if I close down Domoticz, and startup HomeSeer 3 (I am running a trial) using the same Z-Stick, then the SP103 works without problems, so I don't think it's an issue between the sensor and the Z-Stick...

Here's the Configuration, am I missing something, or is this a bug?

OK, after some further investigation, I *think* I know what's going on here...

I'm currently trialling Domoticz on my Windows Home Server 2011 system. I also use LightsOut to run the system on demand from client devices and thus save energy. This means that the WHS 2011 system will sleep at night, after taking backups from the client PCs. I think it is this sleep mode that is causing issues with Domoticz and the sensor.

Domoticz is supposed to wake up the sensor every 4 hours, but clearly it won't do this if the server is asleep. That means that when it does wake up, more than 4 hours are likely to have passed, and at that point, if the sensor is activated, the message gets lost, and Domoticz does not register it. I have to wait until the next wake-up message is sent to the sensor, and then communication gets re-established...

Is my theory sound?

strange

when the sensor detects motion it sends a signal to domotics

the waku up is there when there is no motion at all it wake up the sensor just to check if it is alive

my wake up setting is 2200 seconds i have a fibaro motion sensor

and it is running ok even when there is no motion

try update kernel modules
RPI B+
RPI 2
Fibaro motion sensors , Philips Hue, Z-Wave dimmers, Eneco Toon
Honeywell Evohome 1-Wire Wifi sensors

It's only a theory... But I'd like to nail down why the sensor seems to stop working every now and then in Domoticz. It seems to be 100% reliable in HomeSeer 3 or HomeGenie.

In Domoticz, it all seems a bit fragile - as was already pointed out in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=3745&p=27414&hilit=sp103#p27414

It's not as if the sensor is a great distance away from the Z-stick; it's in the next room, less than 3 meters away...

And how would I go about updating the kernel modules? I'm just installing the Windows download files...

Hello,
I still have that same problem with the SP103 but also with the SP814. I do not have to answer these detectors.
I tried with another program that uses Z-WAY, and it works perfectly.
Is DOMOTICZ or OPENZWAVE the problem?

I'm going to raise this in the bug tracker. I can't see any pattern to it, but sometimes Domoticz responds to messages from the SP103, and sometimes it doesn't. Yesterday, for example, it didn't respond whenever the sensor was triggered during the period from 13:00 to 23:00. This morning, it's back working again. This is not reliable.

As I say, the sensor seems to be working 100% in either HomeSeer V3 or HomeGenie, neither of which (as far as I am aware) use the OpenZwave library. So the issue could lie in either Domoticz or OpenZwave (or a combination of the two...)

OK, it's a good idea, because it makes a lot of time that I raised this issue and there is no response.

Same exact problem here, it stops responding for a couple of hours and comes back online by itself... Every now and then I notice the creation of another unused sensor device that replaces the sensor that stopped responding but after a while this device loses connection as well and it reverts back to the original device... Homegenie works just fine and stable with this sensor (sp103). Really annoying so a solution would be much appreciated...

When this happens, from the node management dropdown select the control panel, and check the node there,
what is it's state?

Will do; of course, it's working at the moment... However, in the log output panel, I see this:

2015-02-11 01:19:19.405 Error, Node007, ERROR: Dropping command, expected response not received after 3 attempt(s)t(s)

Node 007 is the SP103 sensor...

OK, Domoticz is not reporting any activity from the motion sensor at the moment, when it should be. The OpenZwave control panel has:

7 BR Routing Slave Routing Binary Sensor Everspring SP103 PIR Motion Sensor off 17:43:21 Dynamic (sleeping)

Current values shown as:

Sensor: Off
Alarm Type: 0
Alarm Level: 0
Battery Level: 100%

Sensor: On
Alarm Type: 1

Also got this error in the log:

The dropping of a command could be that openzwave is requesting a value that the node will not send,
this can be a configuration file issue.
What command was this ? 'a command' will leave much for the imagination

Also, what was the status in domoticz compared to the control panel status ?
And what was the time the control panel last seen this device?

I have no idea what the command was. There's nothing in the Domoticz log that corresponds to node 7 at that time, only incoming values from meters etc.:

At the moment, the Openwave control panel is showing:

Node Id Basic Type Generic Type Product Name Location Value Last Heard Status
7 BR Routing Slave Routing Binary Sensor Everspring SP103 PIR Motion Sensor off 10:42:26 Dynamic (sleeping)

which is different to what Domoticz is reporting:
22 Zstick 0000700 1 Motion Sensor 1 Lighting 2 AC Off 12 100 Remove Device Log 2015-02-12 19:14:00

I.e. Openwave seems to be saying that the last time it heard from node 7 was 2015-02-13 10:42:26, whilst Domiticz is saying 2015-02-12 19:14:00.

BTW, I have since added an Aeon Multi Sensor to the ZWave network. It is also showing the same flaky behavior. It's even clearer to see, because there's a LED on the sensor that goes on when the sensor is triggered. I'm seeing the LED light, but nothing gets reported in Domoticz.

For the Aeon sensor, the OpenWave control panel reports:

11 BR Routing Slave Routing Binary Sensor Aeon Labs Multi Sensor off 08:12:03 Probe1 (sleeping)

Whilst Domoticz reports:

30 Zstick 0000B00 1 Motion Sensor 2 Lighting 2 AC Off 12 - Remove Device Log 2015-02-11 18:55:16

So that's also a discrepancy?

Postby cox1979 » Thursday 19 February 2015 11:48

All three of my SP103's stopped responding since yesterday evening and I've been unable to get a stable connection up to this moment.

I ended up having to reset my Z-stick and rebuild my entire network but to no avail. Currently I have no working motion sensors and no working security system... Very frustrating.

What's even more frustrating is that in homegenie for example everything works just fine and stable... No idea why.

Also noticed that the entire z-wave system seems a lot more unstable than it is in homegenie, not just with the sp103...

Any help would be much appreciated. Love domoticz... When it works like it should...

I had the same problem with Vision ZP3102 EU PIR Motion Sensor.

They didn't woke up or react after sleep mode.
I found some were in this forum that it was a problem after 2196.
I downgrade the domoticz to Rev: 2196 and openzwave to Rev: 972,
and now it's working again.
