Domoticz says it's running, but webserver is not?

Post by blauwebuis » Friday 13 July 2018 18:06

I don't know what caused it, but I can't access the web interface anymore. I says 'domoticz offline', or it just crashes the browser window.

I don't know what caused it:
- I did update to the latest beta's
- accidentally installing the PP-Manager python plugin again (clicked 'save' instead of 'update').

Restarting the service takes a long time, and even then the 'domoticz offline' message persists.

On rare occasions I did get web access. I've tried renaming the PP-Manager plugin folder to something else, and that did at one point allow me to remove the doubling. But that didn't fix the problem (so might not have been the cause?).

I also tried updating to today beta. I got an error saying there was something wrong with the internet connection. But then I logged in with SSH and updated via the ./updatebeta command, and that downloaded fine.

I can access the Pi at any time via SSH, no problem there.

The service 'status' call says Domoticz is up:

Perhaps the webserver crashed after booting?

Where could I find some logs to look into?

Check if you have activated log o not in /etc/init.d/domoticz.sh

log is this entrie:

DAEMON_ARGS="$DAEMON_ARGS -log /tmp/domoticz.txt"

If you has a # before the line, delete #, save the doc and restart docomoticz. Then check the log file to see if you have an error

@ayasystems: thanks. The logging was already enabled. but the file is empty whenever I look at it.

not being able to update is curious.

Perhaps the filesystem has gotten read-only permissions somehow?
Or perhaps Domoticz cannot access the internet?

I'm still having a lot of issues.

I normally run Domoticz on port 80, but it's not been working lately.

When I use GDB (which runs Domoticz on part 8080), I get this LibSSL error:

Code: Select all

Thread 3 "domoticz" received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

I've also seen:

I've also seen this in the log in the few times I've been able to somehow get Domoticz to start (e.g. renaming plugin folder)

Always keen to have a geeky project, I've been dabbling a bit with Home Automation lately. I've had a 1wire system measuring temps and CCTV IP cameras for many years, and two years ago got a Nest thermostat - but recently I've added some more things. A few remote control sockets, a CurrentCost power meter, a lot of thermometer/humidistats and door switches (Using the cheap Xiaomi hub)

Like everyone else, you get fed up with all the different apps. Alexa helps but I wanted something to tie it all together.

There are two main choices - Home Assistant and OpenHAB. Neither of which I liked, both have steep learning curves and require extensive twiddling to get working. It was actually quite disappointing to find this out - I'd expected an easier user experience. I've also tried every other open source or free alternative I could find - Homegenie, Domogik, Freedomotic, Mister House, OpenMotics, Ago Control, Calaos, FHEM, MajorDomoHome and MyController - none suit my needs.

After a while, I stumbled upon Domoticz which does most of the setup through a web interface. I run this on my home server and it's compatible with all my equipment. The wiki and forum have a lot of useful info and a nice, helpful community.

Due to my dogs and lifestyle, we have a specific problem with high humidity in the house, so a while ago I installed a MVHR home ventilation system. This has been awesome, but it tended to need being left on all the time, which in very cold weather reduced the temp inside a fair bit - or manually control it. With the addition of a simple IP controllable plug adapter and a humidistat in a few key rooms, it's now nicely automated. When someone draws a bath, the humidity rises in the bathroom and within 30 seconds the fan kicks in and stays on until the humidity drops down again. This is just one example and genuinely makes life a little easier and will prolong the life of the fan, save power and keep the house warmer and more comfortable. I have other little things that make life a little nicer as well as satisfy my inner geek. (It's just told me that the kitchen door opened as the wife comes home, for example)

Domoticz is a very nice and well supported option that shouldn't be overlooked. (I have no association other than being a user). The interface is absolutely fine, although if you want more configuration there is a side project, Dashticz (which does require layout being done by text editor rather than pointy-clicky) Below is a screenshot of a new interface I knocked up in one evening using Dashticz. This will be displayed on a tablet in the hall. The CCTV and Rain Radar updates every second too. This is just the key info - in total I have around 20 temperature sensors around the house and garage, 4 cctv cameras. Some of it exists just because I like data but also for house-health reasons. I'm very pleased with it.
