Fail2ban starts now but the RPI doesn't have iptables so this is useless i guess.

Can't you just install it with something like sudo apt-get install iptables or something?

I'm not (very) active anymore on this forum as i don't use Domoticz anymore.

I got connections from the outside world :o

2015-12-30 00:16:02.530 Incoming connection from:
2015-12-30 00:17:55.008 Incoming connection from: ***external ip address***
2015-12-30 02:16:42.866 Incoming connection from: ***external ip address***

I had set up authentication... and always when logging in external I need to fill in username / password.

Looking at the above means that they can connect from the outside or with my account and they have my password, or on a other way...

I have closed the port from the outside for now.

Any idea?

Change them to a random number between 1024 and 65535. 443 is a standard port, ones they know it they attack.

I don't know if you got it working by now, but I think the error message changed in Domoticz and therefore the "failregex" isn't correct. I got it working on my Setup with this "failregex" configured:

failregex = Failed authentication attempt, ignoring client request \(remote address: <HOST>\)

I use Basic Authentication on my Domoticz.

Good evening,

I have the same issue as thecosmicgate.
fail2ban is installed on my Rasp PI3.
All is ok, checked and rechecked again and again, but I have no ban at all.
Logs are OK, but iptables remain empty.
Error message have not change "Error: Failed login attempt from <IP> for user 'xxxx' !

Is there any change with the last Domoticz preventing fail2ban to work ?

These are my Values for domoticz.conf:

failregex = Error: Failed login attempt from <HOST> for user '.*' !
Error: Failed login attempt from <HOST> for '.*' !
Error: Webserver: Failed authentication attempt, ignoring client request \(remote addresses: <HOST>\)
Error: \[web:8080\] Failed authentication attempt, ignoring client request \(remote address: <HOST>\)

I added the last line... I don't know if there are more new messages?
Blah blah blah

Thanks HansieNL for your feedback.
I have finally found this morning where was the problem.
Despite all the checks, I did a typing mistake in the jail.local file thus preventing fail2ban to run properly.
All is running perfect now after correction.
I have not used your last line, but I keep them aside in case of later use.

Hello,

I have installed fail2ban today, but it won't match the failregex rule.
I found out the reason why, the date is missing of when the error happend.
This is needed by the fail2ban.

The error in the Domoticz log file is like:
Error: Failed login attempt from 1.2.3.4 for user 'Me' !

This one is ignored by fail2ban.

I think it should be like:
2017-03-05 15:59:46.732 Error: Failed login attempt from 1.2.3.4 for user 'Me' !

When I test this with the fail2ban-regex, I got a match.

Does anyone know how to get the date in the logfile messages?

Thank you for your help.

Hello Nibble,

The line "Error: Failed login attempt from <HOST> for user 'Me' !" should work because your line with the date is the same with only the dateand time added. There must be a typo or exclusion in fail2ban' jail.local file. Maybe you try from your own network and you have excluded from filtering?
You can also check /var/log/fail2ban.log what fail2ban is logging.
Blah blah blah

Hello,

You would say, but when I only add the date and time before the log entry, it is a match, while the regex isn't changed.
Also I read that Fail2ban test is of to parts, one the date and time and after that the regex line.

The regex rule I'm using: Error: Failed login attempt from <HOST> for user '.*' !

I have no idea what is going wrong here.

Re: Domoticz log and failed attempt (to use fail2ban)

Yes, you can protect the webserver with fail2ban.

I used this https://www.domoticz.com/wiki/Automated ... iple_times to setup my fail2ban.

Although it doesn't work yet with the rules from here,
i would say add a regex string to the domoticz.conf file of fail2ban with something like: Error: Webserver: File '.*': No such file or directory (2)

I notice you've got date and time before those webserver rules, on my system it only writes: Error: Webserver: File '/index2.html': No such file or directory (2) without date.

Do I have to edit some file to get the date in front of the logfile entries?
