[Choice for domoticz:]
I wanted a new toy to play with and in the past years I constantly kept coming back to wanting to be able to control my home remotely. I finally had the main infrastructure running to be able to build upon. Looked briefly at consumer options like SmartThings, but want to avoid vendor lock-in and closed source at all cost. Domoticz looked like a great system with a healthy community backing it.

[My role here?] I'm afraid my role is limited. I took 8 hours to install a script through SSH. However I know social media, I'm fairly good at stuff like copywriting and graphic design. So I'll try to help where I can. In fact, I just wrote my first tutorial ;-)

[b][My role here?][LINUX wannabe, built a KNX house 2 years ago and sold it due to split up, i guess the Home automation thingy really caught my interest so here i am fiddling with Raspberry pi and linux (in my flat)

Right now thanks to this forum i have dimmers and lights and temperature device working as well as some cheap motion detectors from China, now comes the fun part of trying out the logics of events in Domotics

my current most important project which only lacks a Rasp pi "camera" is a wildlife camera triggered by motion detection (i have that working)
the current state is to try to find out how much Amps The PI needs and then hook it up to an old car battery to have it runt for a weeks time, 2nd step will be adding solar panels for prolonged use

right now i could use help with configuring 4G for the Rasp pi and how to control the camera with events in Domoticz,
