TIP! android tablet on the wall

Post by remb0 » Monday 02 October 2017 18:33

with Fully kiosk browser on your tablet you can load domoticz or dashticz full screen and with some extras like:
- no bars
- motion detection to turn on the screen
for more info: http://www.ozerov.de/fully-kiosk-browser/

Buy a magnet with stickers on ali and you are good to go :)

Thanks for this. Works well on my cheap android tab. Best I could find before this was silk browser with "hide system bars" app.

Ok, bit OT but what would be a good (cheap) tablet to run this on?

Even works great on my Nexus7. Only camera view isn't working as expected (no popup). Scrolling through screens (dashticz) is a bit slow.

To give some tips, the pro version has an api support. You can turn the screen off and disable motion when you are asleep or away and turn everything bavk on when home. Saves the tablet a bit :)
Besides that its nice to use Daydream/screensaver with it to show pictures or other stuff.

Probably an extremely obvious question, but I'm still going to ask it: what do you need a magnet with stickers for?

Okay, I thought most had a frame of some sort to attach it to the wall. I would guess that a magnet won't be enough to hold it up, especially when you start pressing on the screen.

I use a 7" tablet. The first one had 3 strips of Velcro, which turned out to be way to strong. I now only use 2 strips and it still is mounted very strong.
The Velcro is sticked to a small piece of wood which is mounted to the wall.

A couple of years ago I bough a Blackberry Playbook from eBay for $20.
It was collecting dust, but now I would like to use it as a on-wall display.
I opened the browser, went to the Domoticz URL and *poof* it works, but on the Floorplan I keep getting errors.

Device refresh error Windmeter
ReferenceError: Can’t find variable:
SVVGElement

I get this error on all my devices located on the Floorplan.
Also these errors happen ONLY on the Playbook, on my iPad it works fine.

Any idea on how to solve this? I already tried a different browser from the Blackberry store, but I get the same errors.

The tablet basically only needs to show a webpage, so I think every recent tablet will do.
I use an Archos 7"I bought at the mediamarkt some months ago for about 50 Euros. Actually my second Archos, the first one got a wifi problem after about 2 years.

But also a lot of AliExpress tablets will do I think.

Yeah, there are lots of them. Unfortunately there aren't many OLED ones around for less.. OLED has no backlight so it is perfect for always on with a dark theme for in the evening. So I'd like to have one where the backlight can be (automatically) adapted to the ambient light levels.

You could set a different background depending on a lux sensor.

No problem with this. Maybe it's your tablet?

The probleem might be that the page uses the cache and after a while you might run out of memory, at least this what I experience with my IPad. Reloading the every few minute might solve this I guess.
