Cheap Sensors

Post by theo69 » Sunday 16 July 2017 23:45

I am using quit some Xiaomi Product by now, I bought them all @ GearBest. The shipping time was okay, german express 7-20 days (also available for other country and EU) and no TAX. They are really CHEAP with good build quality and design. Also integration via homebridge works like a charm.

These is a list of my working products:

Xiaomi Gateway Bridge (you need this)
Xiaomi Smart Door and Windows Sensor
Xiaomi Smart Wireless Switch
Xiaomi Motionsensor
Xiaomi Aqara Double Wall Switch
Xiaomi Aqara Single Wall Switch
Xiaomi Aqara Double Wall Switch Wireless
Xiaomi Aqara Single Wall Switch Wireless
Xiaomi Smart WiFi Socket
Love my Xiaomi Gateway in connection with homebridge and domoticz on my PI3

They are shipped from China, bur I just received my third delivery and only one took more than 15 days. They ship them somehow via UK and there is no TAX. But they do have some Items in there EU Warehouse, however they are more expensive.

Is the gateway also available for EU-sockets, or do you always need an adapter for that?

Looks like an interesting option for home security, much cheaper than zwave. Is the protocol used also secure enough for this, or is zwave better?

They use their own ZigBee implementation so have a look at following pages about security:
https://www.blackhat.com/docs/us-15/mat ... e-Ugly.pdf
http://www.csoonline.com/article/296940 ... homes.html

There seems to be some serious security issues, but if you are using only sending units (temp sensor, ...) you shouldn't have a problem with interfering hackers.

And remember, you rely on the API of Xiaomi, they could decide, from a day to another, to deactivate it or change it as they want.
With Z-Wave you are on the safer side, but have to pay 8-10x more money for a comparable product.
This post was made with ♥ in Cologne. Raspberry Pi 3B (with SSD), Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5, RFLink R47, MiHome

They send a adapter with your shipment, I blocked the gateway IP and therefore the gateway is not "calling home" anymore.

I used this adapter here in germany: Vivanco TA AUS/D Reisestecker Australien/China Buchse

With this you mean you blockes WAN-access in your router? Is this also a solution for the issue described by blacksn0w, where he says Xiaomi could decide at any point to end the API and leave us with useless hardware?
